Possible reimbursements
Receipts and reimbursements
Pédagica issues official receipts for services provided. Depending on your situation, these receipts may be used to support a reimbursement claim with an insurance provider, an Employee Assistance Program (EAP), or for certain tax credit or deduction claims when filing your income tax return.
Important: Rules vary depending on the program, insurer, and tax year. We recommend verifying your eligibility directly with your insurer or a tax professional.
Group insurance and Employee Assistance Programs (EAP)
Some employers offer support services (for employees and/or their children) through:
- a group insurance plan
- an Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
What you can do:
Review your insurance policy to determine whether educational support, learning assistance, or related services are covered.
Ask your insurer or EAP provider about the claims process and the required documentation (receipt, report, prescription, etc.).
Medical expenses: when tutoring or learning support may be eligible
In general, tutoring is not automatically deductible. However, it may be considered a medical expense in certain cases, particularly when:
- the student has a learning disability or an impairment of mental functions;
- the service is in addition to general education;
- a written certification from a healthcare professional is required under applicable rules (federal/provincial).
Official sources to consult: the list of eligible medical expenses (CRA) Canada, and publication IN-130 “Medical Expenses” (Revenu Québec).
Québec tax credit: children’s activities
In Québec, there is a refundable tax credit for certain children’s activities (subject to eligibility conditions and family income). Official details and calculations are provided by Revenu Québec.

Depending on the service, the receipt generally includes:

- confirmation from your insurer or EAP (if applicable)
- any required certification (if you are pursuing the “medical expenses” option)
